KS4-5 ASC sold crocheted Tea cups to raise money in their Citizenship lessons in the Autumn term. They bought Tea, Coffee, Hot Chocolate, Sugar and Biscuits which they donated to the Beechdale over Sixties Club. This week some of KS5 ASC have been to the flat to cook their own meal. They went to Sainsbury’s first to buy the ingredients and then chopped, peeled, sliced and grated the vegetables to make vegetarian spaghetti bolognaise. They also did all the cleaning up afterwards.
Some great life skills work from everyone.
We began by choosing a template and then pricking the outline through it into the pumpkin rind. Some people decided to draw it in felt tip instead.
Once we had done that, we used the rind saw to cut through the pumpkin in the places we had marked. This cut out the eyes and mouth shapes.
Next we cut a circle out of the top so we could reach in and scoop out and scrape out the pulp and seeds.
When the pumpkin was hollow, we put a battery tealight inside to watch the pumpkin head light up.
We had lots of messy fun doing this and learned about the Celtic Folklore story of Jack o’Lantern
