This week some of KS5 ASC have been to the flat to cook their own meal. They went to Sainsbury’s first to buy the ingredients and then chopped, peeled, sliced and grated the vegetables to make vegetarian spaghetti bolognaise. They also did all the cleaning up afterwards.

Some great life skills work from everyone.

Pumpkin Carving KS3 SLD2

We began by choosing a template and then pricking the outline through it into the pumpkin rind.  Some people decided to draw it in felt tip instead.

Once we had done that, we used the rind saw to cut through the pumpkin in the places we had marked.  This  cut out the eyes and mouth shapes.

Next we cut a circle out of the top so we could reach in and scoop out and scrape out the pulp and seeds.

When the pumpkin was hollow, we put a battery tealight inside to watch the pumpkin head light up.

We had lots of messy fun doing this and learned about the Celtic Folklore story of Jack o’Lantern

Gartmore Riding School

We are happy to announce that Gartmore Riding School has been awarded the prestigious Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. This is the ‘MBE’ of voluntary awards, and was presented by the Lord Lieutenant of Lichfield on behalf of The Queen to all the volunteers who help to make Gartmore such a successful RDA centre. They received their crystal award and certificate, personally signed by Her Majesty, at a special ceremony at Lichfield Cathedral on 13th October. Mary Elliot staff also attended to lend their support, and they also received Queen’s Award pins in recognition of their involvement.
